Albums / songs that remind you of a specific moment in the past.
Teardrops.
My first 'I tried ecstasy and I discovered the world again' moment. We were at a friend's place, it was Sunday, after the night out. A mix of happy and sad was flowing, and Alt-J made it both better and worse.
My first shrooms trip.
Just want to spoon with her.
My old man had the album in the car, for years. I never told my friends I listened to Robbie because I was (stupidly) afraid I was gonna get laughed at. Robbie is the bomb that gave me solace during some of the most complex moments in life - and that's something I wouldn't have thought could happen.
Zagreb, 4:00AM, not a single soul, only you and your velvet loneliness.
Long, hot bath with the doors locked and all outside noise shut.
First album I ever purchased, and listend to endlessly. Still my favourite from RHCP. Also, I couldn't stop playing Tibia while listening to the album. I remember the moment I saw the video for By The Way in my kitchen - I was eating a sandwich while passing through. It was on HRT, and I guess it was the first and the last time I got good music from the national TV. Thanks for that!
Considered by many as one of the best albums of 2000's is certainly on of the most important albums for me. I've discovered it late, in 2004 and listen it extensively for two years as a therapy for a very bad breakup. It helped and I moved on but for next 10 years I was unable to listen to it since it invoked dark memories. Last few years the album got rehabilitated and I listen to it sometimes but it still brings lingering bitter sweet mood.
Debut album of a band that almost was named Mookie Blaylock was published before Nirvana's Nevermind, but took off only after and ended No. 2 on Billboard's 200. This whole album represent my teen angst years. This is nothing special since the album Is an anthem of teen angst. What makes it spacial for me is the fact that the album actually came to me in a shape of abandoned cassette. This serendipitous encounter not only comforted me when I needed it, but also pointed me in the right musical direction.
Getting to know the classics, and it turned into love. Playing WoW around the clock, and I upgraded. I always have this flash where I'm running all over Barrens and Thousand Needles territory, slaying some panthers. Led Zeppelin followed me through my first falling in love (great sorrow, per usual, and endless cringes), but they also opened the door to other greats. Still my favourites, though.
a) One of the best albums of it's decade, Britpop's bannerman. I listened to it for hours and hours in high school while playing MMORPG with aweful graphics and interesting internal socialization mechanics called Tibia (author's comment: The Committee (of one) has no idea what this means, hopefully it's translated properly. Sorry if it isn't). I loved the album, and the game. I remember when I first heard 'Bittersweet Symphony', in some lame-ass teen movie with Sarah Michelle Geller (Cruel Intentions, 1999). I felt 'Hell yeah!' and it seemed like I knew the song since forever. The album is much more than that one song, and Richard Ashcroft is a fantastic poet who cures his demons in a good way.
b) An album of summer yearning and beauty that was critically acclaimed and commercially successful. I discovered it very late, in summer of 2005. It's on this list because for me it is embodiment of beautiful nostalgia and sweet lingering loneliness. Every summer I get back to it, and every time I'm happy I found it and sad I didn't find it sooner.
Childhood.
Walkman.
Discman.
Before Pepermint closed (and my night life went down the drain), Zemlja Gruva played there. After the show I ran into the singer, in front of the bathroom. She smelled like a woman that makes men leave their wives.
This nugget is here thanks to my old man, again. He bought it as soon as CDs became a thing, and I still can't figure out how he got his hands on this one, but the album is the fucking bomb. Old old school eletro music, with oriental/space sounds, and catchy melodies. It cut into my memory when my mom would clean the house every Saturday with the Volume up to max. My brother and I would help. It wasn't until later I found out that this guy is a total ĆAĆA, and has 5 entries on the 'Top 25 concerts of all time' list.
